Weekend trip to Jodhpur – Photo journal

On a fine weekend we took off to the Blue city of Jodhpur. Without putting in too many words, here is a Photo Journal of our 2 days in this stunning and regal city of Jodhpur!

…………………………………………………………………..

The trip kicks off with a long long drive starting from Delhi. The Delhi-Jodhpur highway is pretty neat I must say with no potholes to interupt your drive, this route would be any long drive enthusiast’s favourite. Start late night or real early to avoid traffic, just like us. Not a vehicle in view!

Enroute the Delhi – Jodhpur highway, apart from a host of dhabas (road side eateries) near Delhi, not many places to eat were available as we started approaching Jodhpur and further into Thar. One place we came across early morning after looking for a place to eat for long luckily was also serving the best freshly made, stuffed aloo paranthas I have had in a long long time.

Beautiful local woman we came across dressed in traditional attire.

After a few hours of long drive we retired to this lovely elaborate desert Reort and Camp, Thar Oasis for the night and to experience a camping experience in the sand dunes.

It is brilliant how this place is in the middle of no where, yet very well kept and yes! It has a sparkling swimming pool too. What else could one wish for!

As the evening set in, we headed off to the dinner in the dunes set up. A gorgeous set up with white sofas seated around a stage with Rajasthani folk music and dance. Dining with some chilled beer under the expanses of the starry skies was an unreal experience. The music was filling up the evening air and the entire atmosphere was breath taking.

Watch Rajasthani folk dancers in action!

Next day we headed off to the architectural marvel, Mehrangarh Fort. Perched high up, the Fort overlooks the entire blue city of Jodhpur. The Fort has a galore of artileries, weapons and war costumes worn by the Kings and queens during their time of rule on display. Its mind blowing how big the weapons they used were! We stayed on till the sunset, and watching the sun g down from the fort itself is a stunning view.

Peek Inside the Fort!

If you are in the mood to shop, hp into the many stores inside the Fort for vibrant local ornaments, accessories and decor.

And after a super tiring day of Fort watching, how could we miss the super awesome Rajasthani Thali. Perfect way to end a weekend trip to Jodhpur!

Review: Thar Oasis, Jodhpur

Thar Oasis, Jodhpur

One of the highlights about a desert holiday is camping in the sand dunes. On my recent trip to Jodhpur I happened to stay at Camp Thar Oasis and I can agree that it is one of the best camping sites in Jodhpur. The moment you enter the gates of the resort and are greeted by the warm gentleman at the gate with a handsome moustache you know you are in for a great stay.

Pros:

Location: Located far away from the city, this place truly is an oasis in the middle of the desert with expanses of desert and sand dunes around it. The moment you enter the Resort you can see the sprawling lawns and the swimming pool brimming with clean blue water.

Camps & cottages: You can opt to either stay in the camps or the cottages. The cottages are very well maintained, spacious, and well equipped with all basic necessities. the cottages have maintained the essence of Rajasthan with paintings on the walls of the cottages.

The camps are located at a distance from the cottages at a more secluded area. The camp area has an oasis in the middle of it which adds to the experience of staying the sand dunes. The camps are extremely well maintained with beds, washrooms, etc.

Restaurant: The restaurant is equipped with a massive bar and serves delicious food, both indian and continental. The staff too was very polite and warm in their approach.

Do not miss the dinner at the campsite in the middle of the desert under starry skies accompanied with drinks of your choice, amazing Rajasthani folk music and dance.

Cons:

Cons aren’t many. But yes the only not ย so ย good thing about the location is that it is quite far from any of the cities and if you are in for a short trip staying here is not the most convenient option.

I must conclude that I am totally in love with this place I must say ๐Ÿ™‚
